Academia – Ingenio

Lama Tone – Pacific Trailblazer – Ingenio Magazine (PDF)

“Pacific architecture is about community, the connection and engagement of people coming together within communal spaces. In contrast, mainstream architecture comes from the notion of individualism. As a Pacific Islander studying architecture, I believe it is important to know what and how relationships are forged between people and their architecture.”

Childcare centre gets makeover (registration required to view content)

“The kids of Good Seeds childcare have every reason to celebrate. The Mangere centre has undergone a remarkable $300,000 transformation, the first major renovation for the centre since it opened 26 years ago.

Lama Tone spent six to eight weeks designing the new centre and is pleased with the final result.

‘‘We wanted something to suit the kids and local community. I also try to promote Pacific and Maori ideas. Polynesians are communal people. We tend to like wide open spaces and minimise having walls. I  also wanted to incorporate modernist concepts as well as vibrant colours and curved lines.’’
